will fill in for Paul Hawken (who is unable to speak at both ours and two other events due to illness) at 7 PM April 3 . He has graciously agreed to work this event into a business travel schedule that includes stops in Canda and the US.

Lipscomb’s Institute for Sustainable Practice, founded this past summer, will host Hawken at the Tennessee Green Business Summit, April 3-4, on the Lipscomb campus. The summit is designed to provide entrepreneurs and businesspeople opportunities to learn about the rapidly growing field of green business. Cost to attend the summit is $150. To present a booth in the accompanying Tennessee Green Expo costs $250. Hawken’s address at 7 p.m., April 3, on the Lipscomb campus, will be free and open to the public, but pre-registration will be required to ensure adequate seating. Dr. Brian Nattrass is an internationally acclaimed author, speaker, lawyer, and senior corporate advisor on the strategy and execution of sustainability initiatives and corporate responsibility. He has been retained as sustainability advisor to many organizations, both private and public, including Starbucks and Nike in the private sector, and NASA and the U.S. Army in the public sector. A former All-American athlete, Brian had a twenty-year career in corporate law and finance prior to dedicating himself to corporate responsibility and sustainability. Having served as both CEO of a public manufacturing company and Chairman of Earth Day International, he brings a balanced and informed perspective to the issues of sustainability and corporate responsibility. Prior to forming Sustainability Partners, Brian and Mary Altomare led the consulting practice of The Natural Step in the U.S. and Canada. In 2004, Brian was awarded a Batten Fellowship at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia, to pursue research and writing on sustainable business practices and sustainable innovation. Brian is the coauthor of four books, including three with Mary Altomare (see above) on the theory and practice of sustainability and corporate responsibility. Their most recent book, DANCING WITH THE TIGER— Learning Sustainability Step by Natural Step (2002), focuses on the dynamics of innovation, organizational transformation, and the integration of more sustainable business practices. It features some of the latest learning from their clients such as Nike, Starbucks, the U.S. Marines, the City of Seattle, the global engineering firm CH2MHILL, and the international mountain resort of Whistler, BC. Their 2001 book, Community Sustainability Toolkit, is a manual for community sustainable development. Their first book together, THE NATURAL STEP FOR BUSINESS—Wealth, Ecology and the Evolutionary Corporation (1999), has become an international sustainability bestseller, and is used by businesses, universities, and government agencies around the world. |
